On Sunday 18th May the STMA Reading Junior Muay Thai Fight Team took part in the Siam Open Junior Championships at Weoley Castle Working Mens Club, Birmingham.   Two of their junior fighters won their respective weight/age categories becoming Siam British Open Champions.  We also had five other junior medallists picking up either Silver or Bronze.

  • Davidas Musinskis defeated Shreyan Chauhan (Fearless MMA) in the 12-13y under 48kg advanced category final to become the Siam British Open Champion. He really fought amazing, dominating all three rounds using his height advantage with his long-range kicks and good knees in the clinch as well as fast.  He thoroughly deserved the victory.

  • Ion Vijendran beat Jack Diamond (UMA Thaiboxing Gym) in the 12-13y under 57kg advanced category semi-final with an impressive display of skill at a very fast pace with none stop low/round kicks and punches. He progressed to the final managing to defeat Dilsher Alall (Gracie Barra Holbrooks Coventry) in a close match to become the Siam British Open Champion.

  • Will Meechan fought Max Blindell (Kiatphontip) in the 12-13y under 36kg advanced category final. He was up against a much more experienced opponent but didn’t back down giving a very good account of himself.

  • Jake Macfarquhar fought Harry Kenyon (Majestic Gym) in the 8-9y under 32kg advanced category. He won the 1st round but lost the 2nd/3rd rounds although he has improved a lot recently showing warrior spirit.

  • Kai Binisevicius took on Teddy (Majestic Gym) in final of the Novice 6-7y under 25kg category. He was doing well at the start of the fight but unfortunately got swept and hit the canvas heavy in the 2nd round which he never really recovered from.  He still showed a lot of improvement since his last fight as well as good spirit.

  • Jimmy Stevenson fought Max Blindell (Kiatphontip) in the semi-final of the 12-13y under 36kg advanced category. Jimmy trained extremely hard for this tournament for the past 3 months. However he came down with a cold/flu virus two days before which really effected his performance.  I am sure he will bounce back stronger in his next fight.

  • Jacob Davy won Bronze against Anderson Kell (McGowan Muay Thai) in the 12-13y under 40kg category semi final. He won the 1st round but unfortunately lost the 2nd /3rd  However he still did amazingly well as he has literally only been training 4-5 months.  He is extremely dedicated training 4x per week plus private lessons which is really paying off.  He has a bright future ahead.

Overall the STMA Reading Junior Muay Thai Fight Team did very well.  The standard of this tournament is up there with some of the very best I have seen in the UK.  All the fighters who took part were very talented and showed great courage/determination.  The team will be back out again soon with SKS Empire & Muay Thai Royalty decision bout shows coming up over the next few months as well as multiple other tournaments.  We have 4x Junior Muay Thai classes as well as 4x Junior Boxing classes per week at STMA Reading, Scours Lane in Reading.  We offer free trial sessions.
